The month of June is a bit wet and full of backyard Peonies. I’m always surprised they come back in full force after a dreadfully cold winter – hardy. I can’t help but celebrate these flowers with lots of paintings. Of course there are other flowers that join my celebration. Feathers are always a must! And the big celebration this weekend – much Joy!
I went home knowing this may be the last time I would be with my Mom. We had a week together and then the loss and grief. Through all of this, my Mom taught me the importance of a beautiful life. I have lost my way a little bit. I keep trying but some days there is nothing to give. I find comfort in nature and sometimes it holds me and gives me the focus I need. There are so […]
My brother-in-law, Warren has always been a bird watcher, or at least as long as I have known him and he carries a very sophisticated camera with plenty of gear to break one’s back hefting it on long hikes and outings. From time-to-time he will send me some beautiful birds images he has captured with his camera. He had been visiting an area where Sandhill Cranes congregate. He has been watching a couple that had two eggs, only one survived […]
I have been so inspired by Laura at Create Art Everyday. She is always making the most beautiful and lush drawings with her Neo crayons. She describes them as buttery…so with that, I gave it a try. I actually enjoyed painting with them mostly. The colors are incredibly intense. When I downloaded these images I noticed uneven light (still). Hopefully I’ll get that figured out soon. Back to Neos, I just took my wet brush right to the crayon and […]
I should be called the very inconsistent blogger. Not sure why I’m dragging my heals but it seems my blogging has fallen off the enjoyable list of things to do. So, with a swift kick in my bottom, I shall blog! I thought I would share the oil paint transfer that I have been really enjoying. John drew this Koi for something he was working on and after he was done with it I asked if I could use it. […]
Sending you love and flowers on Valentines day straight from my “garden”. Sorry no garden in the middle of winter although the little flower below is from my lemon tree. I believe it probably is a pretty rare thing to have in Minnesota. A little experiment with oil paint transfer and watercolors. Hope all is good in your world.
For the start of the new year I decided to take the latest Sketchbook Skool class – Expressing. Sometimes I find that I need to do something a little different or just shake things up, especially in the middle of the winter. This felt like the right kind of “something”. The latest assignment is to make a book. The instructor shows how to make many really unique books, but my first pass is a simple accordion book. The story is […]

I don’t know about you, but I found this first full week of the new year a bit of a wild ride, full thrusters forward. Re-entry to work after a week off, ouch, so intense. As I have mentioned in past posts, I paint at night after work and dinner. I feel a bit “robbed” if I don’t paint so clearly this has become habit-forming in a really good way. But when I can’t paint I also feel incredibly disappointed […]
Here we are, at the start of a new year. Do you make new year’s resolutions? Sometimes I do but this year I think I’ll just skip it. Not that I have any issues with setting goals and being focused. For now I think I’ll just carry on. And with that said, I’ll get back to the title of this post and move forward on mushrooms. It’s gotten pretty cold around these parts which means everything is frozen. A walk […]
Here’s something fun to try if you are on Instagram – “2015 best nine”. Here’s the link http://2015bestnine.com/. Just a fun way to amuse yourself and find out how many posts you really posted in 2015, plus see your top 9. Here’s mine: This has been a year of my “social experiment”. First it was just finding the courage to post one of my watercolors. Then it became more about painting consistently. I started the year with Sketchbook Skool and […]
Getting into the spirit of the season can take me time. Sometimes I let it just slip away and other times I join in. Seeing some beautiful cards being made by blogger friends (Jodi and Sharon) I became inspired and last Sunday I sat down and painted cards for my parents and John’s mom. That evening I put up the tree. Ours is a small “feather” tree. The pups are under the tree… Birds are nestled in the tree… The […]
I’ve posted about the collaboration project I have been part of in the past and now my book has returned home to me. It’s wonderful to see it with my own eyes and I will always treasure it as well as the collaboration and the incredible friendships I have made with these three extremely talented and compassionate artists. Originally I had added a few shells and a feather to the book but when it returned to me it had grown […]
